Rick Riordan, award winning American author, wrote the Percy Jackson series based upon the bedtime stories he would tell his son about Greek mythology. The series is part one of an ongoing collection, followed by Percy Jackson & the Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase, the Kane Chronicles, and the Trials of Apollo.
A young boy, diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, finds it hard to fit into any of the schools he attends. On a field trip, an incident involving a fountain, a demon math teacher, and pretty sharp pen leads to a series event, which can be considered quite unfortunate.
The books are first directed towards 9 to 16 year olds, but, as the series is quite diverse, there is no strict rule that states only young teens should read the series. Rather, anyone with an interest in mythology or adventure should check out the series.
Riordan’s writing is also rather simple, easy to read. From multiple accounts, its been stated that people learning English have found his writing to be quite helpful when learning. Additionally, the books can be found in over 40 languages.
